Variables That Can Affect Garage Door Cost
Many factors can influence the price of a new garage door, like size, design, and insulation R-value. Ask for a quote by calling or messaging us to get an idea of the price range. Or you make an appointment with us, and we can physically show you some options in our showroom at 3521 S. Norton Ave. in Sioux Falls.
Garage Door Size - Garage doors, of course, come in all kinds of different sizes. However, just because a door is twice as big does not necessarily mean it will cost twice as much.
Material - Garage doors can be manufactured from a pretty wide range of materials, including steel, fiberglass, wood and aluminum.
Insulation - Buying an insulated garage door should be seen as more of an investment than an expense. There are two types of insulation to choose from, polyurethane and polystyrene. The type of insulation used helps to determine the R-value of garage doors. The higher the R-value, the better the insulation properties and the greater the resistance is to heat flow. By choosing a well-insulated garage door with a higher R-value, you may have to spend more on the front end, but over the years, you'll be saving money that you would have lost with a lower R-value door. There are many people in our Sioux Falls, South Dakota area who want a heated garage for our brutal winters. So, you'll need a nice, insulated door for that reason. Otherwise, most of your heat goes right through the door.
Options - You can add options to your garage door such as windows and custom colors. Obviously, that increases the cost of the door. Window inserts and designer glass options allow the natural light to come into the garage and increases the appeal of the door.
You can get a variety of standard colors at no additional charge. What if you're a homeowner or business owner who wants to color match or you want a very specific color? Powder coating a door is an option. Generally the price is configured by the square foot of the garage door.

Material - Garage doors can be manufactured from a pretty wide range of materials, including steel, fiberglass, wood and aluminum.
- Steel is the most common due to durability and ease of maintenance. Plus, steel garage doors offer a broader color range, insulation options, and price options. Prices can range from a low-end, non-insulated, pan door... to a high-end, insulated, sandwich style and everything in between. And they can make steel look a lot like wood these days.
- Though a less common purchase, fiberglass garage doors are durable. Of the materials available, fiberglass is one of the more expensive options when considering garage door prices. Fiberglass garage doors are also very lightweight. Doesn't do real well in cold weather either.
- There is no question that wood has one of the most unique and nicest looks. It can be bold, modern, elegant, or however you wish. However, wood does require more maintenance and care than other materials. Wood garage doors can be extremely charming focal points on the right home.
- Aluminum or full view garage doors create a very modern look and are ideal for corrosive environments being that they are rust-resistant. And the more solid panels you replace with glass the more the garage door will cost.
